Lush and romantic, Kelly and Matt’s Charleston engagement session has us swooning over the vintage details and moody feel.
A true collaboration between the couple and photographer Taylor Torbert, the shoot led the trio from a historic home on the Battery to the beach.
Says photographer Taylor, “A family friend of Kelly owns a historic mansion on The Battery right on the water; their families know each other through fixing up Model T's—Kelly drove the 1922 classic car out of the garage for our shoot. She graciously allowed us to shoot there, both inside the luxurious home as well as on the balcony and roof.”
There was a beautiful contrast between the traditional historic home and the casual, vintage style of the couple. “The luxurious home was the perfect juxtaposition to their tattoos, wild curly hair, and the amazing florals,” remembers Taylor.
Throughout the shoot, the group emphasized contracts: the wildness of the beach with their formal wear, the classic car with their loose waves, and the modern bouquet with the historic home. Taylor states, “[Kelly and Matt] were absolutely on fire, clashing with the cool waves and further bringing together this engagement full of so many eclectic and opposite details.”
“The ladies of Tulips & Twigs created a 4 ft wreath out of foraged greenery to add an element of drama to the shoot. The bouquet was made from all locally sourced and foraged flowers, as a part of the Slow Flower Movement.
“The sleek jewelry pieces from Dee Ruel, another local Charleston creative, tied in all of the wild, modern, and romantic elements beautifully.”
