Each week, Palmetto State Weddings will introduce our readers to one of the talented vendors from around our beautiful state through the Spotlight On series. If you're interested in being featured, please contact us.
If you're planning a wedding and are overwhelmed by the number of details that there are to consider, you need a wedding planner.
And, if you're in the Upstate, that wedding planner just might be Michelle Lewis, the owner and organizer extraordinaire behind Ever Weddings.
In the 5 years that she's been helping brides and grooms create the perfect wedding day, she's also learned the ins and outs of the South Carolina wedding industry and had an adorable little girl. Today, this multi-tasking mama is sharing her #1 secret for success in the wedding community and why she's happy to call Greenville home.
Tell us a little bit about your path to success. Did you always want to be in the wedding industry?
I've wanted to be a wedding coordinator since high school when I attended a wedding that was poorly organized, leaving the guests unsure of what was going on most of the time.
I thought, "I could do better than this!"
Turning the idea over in my mind for years, I started to realize how wedding coordinating used all of my personal strengths, and wanted the flexibility that it could give me in raising a family at the same time!
If you had to share one piece of advice for someone who was just starting out in the SC wedding industry, what would it be?
Find a community. You can't do it alone!
You need other vendors to recommend you, you need friends and family to encourage you, and you need professionals in your area to look up to and help you set realistic goals.
I found my community in the Rising Tide Society among other groups. Find a community that reflects your values and it'll be easy to make friends who are so excited to walk with you in your entrepreneurial journey!
What is the best part about working/living in South Carolina?
I love that South Carolina is such a destination. People across the country know of South Carolina's beautiful beaches and lovely weather (most of the time).
I moved here for family, but with each passing year I fall more in love with Greenville and encourage friends to move here too!
Plus, there are countless beautiful outdoor venues that are perfect for weddings year-round.
What has been your best moment working in the SC wedding industry so far?
As I mentioned above, I joined the Rising Tide Society here in Greenville. When I attended a Tuesdays Together meeting for the first time, I was overwhelmed by the encouragement I received from other like-minded entrepreneurs turning their passions into a full-time job.
I'll always remember stepping into that coffee shop feeling nervous and inadequate, but the people I met there made me feel validated and excited for my journey as a wedding coordinator. It's hard to forget the moment I realized my dream could be a reality!
