Claibourne and Matt's wedding was a joyful celebration of their love in one of the Pee Dee region's most beautiful settings. For their Kalmia Gardens wedding day, they wanted something that was ejoyable for their guests and poignant for their special time together: "[the day] was meant to be very relaxed and casual," remembers bride Claibourne.
To accomplish this, the couple opted for a soft color palette of baby blue and grey, and accented their day with lots of greenery and pastel-hued florals.
Their venue didn't need much enhancement, thanks to its garden beauty. Says Claibourne, "We did not want anything over the top and the ceremony took place in front of a historic house and gardens, so we had a lot of "natural" decorations."
Always together, never apart. Maybe in distance, but never in heart.
For their big day, Claibourne and Matt wanted their family and friends to surrounded them with love on their big day.
But one important person was missing in Kalmia Gardens as they exchanged vows: Claibourne's mother, Laura Crouch.
Just a few months before their wedding day, Claibourne and Matt gathered by Mrs. Crouch's bedside to exchange vows. They knew that Mrs. Crouch wanted to see her daughter get married, but her health was too precarious for the couple to wait for their April 2018 date to do so.
So, they had an intimate ceremony just for Claibourne's mom, who was able to watch the couple exchange vows and celebrate with her daughter and new son-in-law.
Sadly, Mrs. Crouch passed away soon afterwards, but her memory was still very much alive at Claibourne and Matt's Kalmia Gardens wedding.
Photographer Jessica Hunt said of the bittersweet emotions that ran throughout the day, "Sometimes, beauty is not just found in flawless wedding days where everything went perfectly. True beauty is found in real emotion, loss, grief, and the joy someone can feel even amongst all of that."
Claibourne and Matt ensured that Mrs. Crouch was there in spirit with several beautifully thought out elements. Claibourne wore her mom's watch and Matt wore the Brackish Bowtie that Mrs. Crouch had requested.
Claibourne's dad, her twin sister, and her older sister were all there to share hugs, tears, and love at this very special, very emotional day.
