When two sports loving people decide to get married, there's a good chance that their guests are in for an upbeat, entertaining experience!
AnnaMaria and Samuel adore hockey, football, and tailgating, so they wanted to incorporate their favorite sports into the garden wedding of their dreams. With one stunning custom dress and pops of red and orange, the couple designed a ceremony and reception that fit perfectly into the natural surroundings of Magnolia Plantation. The result was a carefully crafted, fun-filled event that celebrated family, friends, and a forever commitment at one of Charleston's prettiest outdoor venues.
The wedding was caught on camera by Nathan Bell from Richard Bell Photography and Korey McDonald from Korey Mac Videography, and beautifully showcases the attention to detail that AnnaMaria and Samuel brought to their big day.
Bringing a Vision to Life
Sometimes, a bride knows exactly what she wants. That was how AnnaMaria felt about her dress.
When she started the process of wedding dress shopping, she couldn't find anything that fit her vision. Thankfully, she found some help in her quest to make her dream gown come to life in the staff at New York Bride and Groom. "We added pockets, re-did the whole top to have lace sleeves, slightly off the shoulders and still be open back in a way that was modest and sexy. I made the bottom bigger as well as using a sweetheart neckline under the lace," AnnaMaria says.
The result of their work was a stunning custom gown that beautifully completed the outdoor space where she exchanged vows with Sam.
A Childhood Dream
Magnolia Plantation is one of Charleston's most sought after venues, thanks to its rich history, stunning natural surroundings, and sprawling gardens. When bride AnnaMaria was 13, she first visited Magnolia Plantation and fell in love. Even as a teen, "I knew I wanted to get married there!" says AnnaMaria.
The couple was also drawn to the property's historic background, which fit these self-proclaimed history nerds to a tee. Their venue ended up being a best backdrop that they could've imagined, as they shared their day with friends and family who'd traveled from all over the U.S. to join them.
Sports Fans and Wedding Plans
These two love sports. Samuel plays hockey, and the couple's first date was to a hockey game. Add in the fact that AnnaMaria's love for college football runs deep, and you've got a wedding that wouldn't have been complete without a few nods to their favorite pastimes.
The couple used their favorite sports team names as their table markers, and designed dinner as "Tailgating hour" (which is so cute that we are going to have to steal it for our next big gathering!).
Their DJ worked hard to keep an upbeat atmosphere throughout the reception, which led to one of AnnaMaria and Stephen's favorite moments of the day. "AJ the DJ came up to me and told me to take a step back after "Sweet Caroline" played and watch the crowd go crazy. I did that, and it is a memory that will last with me forever. AJ played "Shout" next and the whole group just went nuts!" says AnnaMaria.
They even sent their guests home with Chinook Seeds, flavored sunflower seeds that are necessary snacks for any sports outing.
Most couples say they want a wedding centered around their family and friends, but AnnaMaria and Samuel made sure that they made everyone feel like part of their big day.
They choose the father of a longtime friend of Samuel's to preside over their ceremony, which immediately created the welcoming, inclusive, and traditional atmosphere they longed for while exchanging vows. One of AnnaMaria's favorite moments was when their pastor led the ceremony participants in the Lord's Prayer. "[During the prayer,] we held hands with our bridal party while looking out at our family and friends which really allowed us to memorialize every one’s faces and support for our marriage," remembers AnnaMaria.
The ceremony was made even more special due to the fact that Samuel and AnnaMaria hadn't seen each other for an entire day before their ceremony began. "The first time he saw me was while I was walking down the aisle. My parents did that and it was very important to me to follow in the tradition since they have been married for over 30 years," she states.
The two also incorporated other sweet traditions in their day, including AnnaMaria's decision to wear her great-great-grandmother's heart pin on her wedding dress, and a special area that memorialized their loved ones.
In another special touch, AnnaMaria's college friend Korey McDonald served as the couple's wedding videographer. (Don't miss a clip from their wedding video above!)
